The Environment
Globalisation
When discussing the topic of globalisation, the environment is often not considered. In fact, one of the greatest costs of increased global economic activity is the damage that has been done to the environment. Global warming is a world issue which is becoming more and more evident and costly to deal with.
Globalisation results in increased global activity
Therefore, there is a greater use of natural resources
It has led to a depletion of natural resources (resources running out e.g. oil, fish stocks)
It has led to a degradation of natural resources (air pollution, acid rain)
Some examples:
Deforestation - logging for wood and clearing of forests for farmland or factories
Increased transportation - because of increased production to meet global demand
Economic activity leading to the threat of global warming
It can be argued that the rate of globalisation is not sustainable at current levels because of the impacts it has on the environment.
